Home of Scholar Yi, Hang-ro
icon This house is the home of Yi, Hyang-ro (1792~1868), a scholar of late Joseon, which was built during the time of his father, about 200 years ago. He spent his whole life in this house and it is the place where many scholars such as Choi, Ik-hyeon, Hong, Jae-hak and many others were taught by Yi.
Yi, Hang-ro passed the state examination in the 8th year of King Sunjong¡¯s reign (1808),

When Byeonginyangyo (invasion of French fleet coming to fight against the oppression and massacre of Catholics by King Gojong) occurred in the 3rd year of King Gojong¡¯s reign, Yi advised Heungsun-daewongun, the father of King Gojong, to fight back. He also reestablished the Juri Philosophy (ñ«×âôÉùÊ) and established the foundation of closed-door policy during the end of the Joseon Dynasty.
The building consists of the sarang room, which is the male guest room and also the hangrang room, where servants slept. Also, in the inside of the house is the ahn room, which is the room for the lady of the house, and the house is laid in an L-shape making a traditional scholar¡¯s house.
