The name Semiwon is derived from an old saying that one will cleanse their mind by looking at water and the mind will become beautiful by looking at flowers (觀水洗心 觀花美心). Like this saying, this garden is for everyone who visits this garden to cleanse their minds to a peaceful state. All paths in this garden are made with washboards instead of bricks as a symbolical meaning.
Semiwon includes a 400 pyong World Water Lily Garden where over 50 kinds of water water lilies and over 60 kinds of plants that lives in water grow beautifully all year long.
Behind the World Water Lily Garden lays a 1000 pyong Environment Learning Center with an environment education spot to experiment how aquatic plants purify the environment. The Hangang Purity Foundation is to help keep the Hangang River flow clean and pure. Also a large experimental cultivation park is established for cultivating a new kind of white lotus for cleaning the waters of the Hangang River.
At Semiwon, enjoy water lilies from 10 in the morning and till 3 in the noon and then complete your day by enjoying the beautiful scenery of the setting sun at the Hangang River with various fountains and lightings starting from 6 in the evening.
